Is this where it all began?

I found this book last week in a box of old books that has been in my sister's loft for well over a decade. It was a childhood book that I cherished and I remember being fascinated by this two page spread. Is this where the classifying, taxonomising and collecting began for me? I wouldn't be surprised. I learnt the dinosaurs first, followed by Star Wars characters and eventually ended up at something useful, birds, by about age 10. I'm looking forward to Adastra tomorrow, I'm speaking about pan-species listing but there are some really great talks that I can't wait to hear.

Hello,
I too have kept many of my first natural history books.feel very weird looking at them after so many years...30 odd!
Re the forthcoming Lewington bok on micros: I spoke to him on the subject at the last birdfair, and he produced an original unpublished painted plate for the book.Gobsmackingly good.Such a talented guy.I can assure you I shall be one of the very first to buy the book when it's printed.I can't wait!

Thanks for the comment Paul. One of the authors(Phil Sterling) of the micro book spoke at the NMRS conference last weekend so we got a whole presentation on the book. I can't wait for it too! It will be worth looking out for a pre-publication offer in British Wildlife.

I had this book when I was a kid in the 70s! The effects were wider-reaching than I thought obviously...
When is the micro book expected?

Graeme Lyons Says:

Hi Jonathan, I think they said May for the book.
